Better Buildings Partnership members have identified two priorities relevant to waste generated in buildings: the reduction of operational (daily) waste that goes to landfill and the minimisation of waste that occurs during commercial tenancy fitout works.

The Waste Technical Working Group hosted a symposium on Minimising Waste from Fitout on 21 November 2012, to address the system issues and potential solutions for minimising waste associated with constructing commercial fitouts. From this point, the working group has now identified areas for further action going forward, including promotion of the RICS Greening Make Good Guide and sharing case studies of successful fitouts like the Green Building Council of Australia and the GPT Group.

Over the next year, the Better Buildings Partnership’s Waste Technical Working Group will be producing guidelines for measuring, reporting and procuring operational waste services in buildings and will continue to tackle the complex issue of commercial office fitout wastes.
